Dr.Erfan & Bagedo General Hospital Chooses Cisco to Help Drive Improved Healthcare in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s Oldest Hospital to utilize Cisco Connected Health to improve Communication and Productivity

Jeddah, SAUDI ARABIA, September 28, 2009 - Cisco today announced that the Dr. Erfan & Bagedo General Hospital, one of the oldest and leading private hospitals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will be deploying a Cisco Unified Communications® network to enable a collaborative Connected Health community environment to help the hospital to increase caregiver teamwork and productivity as well as provide better patient experiences by delivering increasingly sophisticated treatments more cost-effectively and efficiently. Cisco Connected Health technology not only helps to streamline workflows and improve communication among clinicians, it also facilitates security, reliability and regulatory compliance and helps to reduce capital and operating expenses of hospital facilities.

Highlights / Key Facts:

  • Today’s announcement represents another key milestone in Cisco’s commitment to focus on improving and advancing communication and productivity in healthcare in Saudi.
  • Cisco Connected Health technology is helping to save hours in redundant hospital practices/wasted communications cycles – allowing caregivers the opportunity to spend more time with patients.
  • Cisco Unified Communications combine all forms of business communications into a single, unified solution for powerful new ways to collaborate across companies and work spaces; accelerate decision making and customer service cycles; innovate across the value chain and integrate applications.
  • A number of business challenges confront the healthcare industry. Among these are service quality, safety, rising costs, and a shortage of skilled staff to meet the needs of an ever-expanding number of patients with an increasingly complex burden of illness. Meeting these challenges requires a shift from acute episodic care to preventive and long-term chronic care management. This new care model must be supported by interoperable health information technology and patient-centric care systems. Dr. Erfan & Bagedo General Hospital will deploy a Cisco Medical-Grade Network  (MGN) which provides the industry-specific framework required to meet healthcare’s unique needs for interoperability, security, availability, productivity, and flexibility.
  • The hospital will be fitted with Cisco Secure Wireless to improve mobility and privacy compliance and provide more services to patients. It will help to deliver a highly secure, reliable foundation, thereby allowing the hospital to confidently deploy mobile applications and services. With this solution, the Efran Hospital can use the latest WLAN technologies to increase employee productivity, while also meeting rigorous compliance standards for data privacy and security.
  • Cisco will initially collaborate with the Hardware Solutions Building Company Ltd (HASOUB) in bringing the solutions to market. HASOUB is a leading total IT solutions provider based in Saudi Arabia, with operations in Egypt, Jordan, and Boston, USA.  Founded in 2002, today HASOUB delivers a broad portfolio of total solutions and outsourcing services to clients, in areas such as hardware, infrastructure cabling, networking, engineering, integrated services, customer care and on-demand logistical support services.
